Olympia Zen Center is a member of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association and the American Zen Teachers' Association.
We practice Zazen, sitting meditation, each morning at our temple, Ryoko-an, followed by morning ceremony which includes chanting. We chant in both Japanese and English. We offer instruction in Zazen and in the ceremonies of the meditation hall. We have monthly Sesshin (intensive meditation retreats) during which we practice walking meditation, working together, and the monastic style of using monk's eating bowls. Senior students are assigned reading for study and assist in teaching the various forms of practice. Students may have personal interviews with the teacher by arrangement. We offer workshops in calligraphy, poetry, and other Zen arts.
Each one practices at his or her own level. We have an abiding respect for one another and deeply try to practice the encouragement and support of one another's lives in the Dharma.
