Upcoming Ryokan Lecture

The Annual Ryokan Lecture honors and celebrates the hermit priest-poet Ryokan with whom we are in lineage.  Each year we invite an outstanding teacher whose life reflects the values and teachings of Ryokan.

This year we are celebrating the life of the poet and the poetry of Ryokan.  We have invited Joseph Stroud, Poet, who whose life has been dedicated to poetry and teaching.

His most recent book, Of This World: New and Selected Poems is available at your local bookstore.  A book signing will follow his lecture/reading on Friday evening and Saturday workshop.  Please register early as our space is limited.

Joseph Stroud is the author of five books of poetry: In the Sleep of Rivers, Signatures, Below Cold Mountain, Country of Light, Of This World: New and Selected Poems, and five limited editions: Unzen, Burning the Years, Three Odes of Pablo Neruda, Ukiyo-e, Night Psalms.  His work has earned a Pushcart Prize and he was selected by the Poet Laureate of the United States for a Witter Bynner Fellowship in poetry from the Library of Congress.  He divides his time between his home in Santa Cruz on the California coast and a cabin in the Sierra Nevada.
