The Board of Olympia Zen Center oversees the business activities of the Sangha, makes appropriate decisions on behalf of Sangha, and cares for the integrity of the temple grounds and the teacher welfare. This work is part of Zen practice as the temple grounds, the finances, care of the teacher are all part of maintaining a harmonious Sangha.
The teacher maintains care of the practice of Zazen, ceremonies, teaching, study, retreats, the practice schedule and all activiites that occur in the life of the Zendo. At Olympia Zen Center, the teacher participates on the board but does not have a vote.
An annual meeting is held in early January to elect new board members who serve for two years and may be reelected indefinitely. The Board chooses the president and vice president from among its members.
Olympia Zen Center's ethical guidelines are posted on our bulletin board along with the complete Bylaws. Minutes of all meetings are filed in the library and are available for anyone to read. We invite all Sangha members to take an interest in the board activity and voice concerns or suggestions at any time.
Participation on the board allows Sangha members to show their deep appreciation and love for the temple grounds and its development and the smooth functioning of the Sangha's health and welfare. Through this Way of finding our way together we truly become spiritual sisters and brothers in the Dharma.
